(Q1)
How do I copy files from the Commodore Amiga to the PC and vice versa?
Below is 3 methods :-
(1) Use CrossDos on the Commodore Amiga and copy
the files to a 3.5" 720K Ms-Dos disk. CrossDos lets you use the Amiga to
read and write
Ms-Dos Disks . CrossDos is installed on Workbench v2.0 and
v3.0. Click here to find out how to format a Ms-Dos
disk.
(2) Use Amiga Explorer with a
Null-Modem Serial Cable to connect the PC and the Commodore Amiga. Purchasing the
Amiga Forever
emulator gives you
the Amiga Explorer.
Connect the cable and run Amiga Explorer on both PC
and Amiga. Then use Windows Explorer to copy the files. The benefits for
using this method are the files can have Long File
Names (more than 8 characters) and you can copy files greater than 720K.
This is the best way to copy Amiga files.
To increase the speed of copying files. Press right
mouse button on the Amiga Computer icon (On PC) and choose properties.
Increase the bits per second (bps). The 57,600 bps runs fast but causes
errors sometimes on my Amiga 1200. I use the slower 38,400 bps since its
more reliable. You need to also change and use the same bits per second
(bps) on the Aexplorer icon on the Amiga, using the icon information
option.
(3) Use PC-Task on the Amiga. This program is a
Ms-Dos emulator for the Commodore Amiga and lets you run PC Ms-Dos
programs. You need a bootable 720K disk, click here to
see how to format this type of disk. This is the slowest method to copy
Amiga files.

(Q2) How do I format a 3.5" 720K
Ms-Dos disk?
Commodore Amiga
(1) Load Workbench v2.0 or v3.0 on the Amiga.
(2) Run CrossDos
(3) Run the Format program
(4) Select PC0: for the internal drive or PC1: if
you have an external drive.
(5) Format using a Amiga 880K Double Density disk.
If you use a
1.44MB High Density disk, put some tape over the whole in
the left.
PC
Format a PC 720K Double Density disk using a
Windows Operating System before XP. Type this into Ms-Dos 'Format a:
/f:720'.

(Q3) How do I make a bootable
720K Ms-Dos disk?
Commodore Amiga
Use PC-Task on the Amiga. Load PC-Task with a
bootable Ms-Dos disk inserted. Insert the 720K blank disk. When the
prompt appears, type 'Format a: /f:720 /s'
PC
If you have a Windows Operating System before XP.
Insert a 720K Double Density disk. Type this into Ms-Dos 'Format a:
/f:720 /s'. This formats the disk and copies the system files
(COMMAND.COM, IO.SYS and MSDOS.SYS).

(Q4) How do I compress and
uncompress DMS files?
(1) Download the
Amiga program
DMS (The Disk-Masher).
(2) Copy the file to the Amiga using one of these
methods.
(3) Run Workbench
(4)
Run Shell or CLI
(5) Copy the DMS file to RAM:
(6) Insert the disk to be read in DF0: and compress
the DMS archive by typing this 'dms read ram:diskname'. With no
extension.
(7) To uncompress archive. Insert disk to be
written to in DF0: and type 'dms write ram:diskname'.

(Q5) How do I copy a game or demo
from the PC (ADF format) to the Commodore Amiga?
(1) Purchase the
Amiga Forever
emulator which has Transdisk and Amiga Explorer.
(2)
Load WorkBench or Shell Pro.
(3) Run Amiga Explorer on both the PC and Amiga
side.
(4)
Copy Transdisk and the ADF file from the PC to the Amiga's Ram, using
Amiga Explorer and a null-modem cable.
*
(5) Format a disk and then insert the blank disk
in DF0:
(6) Type in Newcli or Shell 'ram:transdisk -w
ram:game.adf'.
*
You can use CrossDos and a 880K Double Density
disk. The ADF file will need to be converted to LHA format first. Since
the ADF file is slightly larger than the capacity of the disk.
